Christie Abeling-Opper “Living in our bodies for a lifetime every aspect of who we are connects to our physical form.” Christie
grew up dancing in New York City and went on to receive a BFA in dance
education and choreography at Virginia Commonwealth University. Her
discovery of yoga unfolded out of her experience as a dancer and her
love of the body as a healing and creative force. She began studying
yoga in 1992 with Kripalu teachers and continued for the next 8 years
as she danced professionally and taught in NY and Va. In 1999, after
moving to the lush mountains of Western North Carolina, she completed
the teachers’ training with the Asheville Yoga Center and began
passionately teaching yoga to adults and children. Throughout her teaching
and practice she has witnessed the immediate empowerment and vitality
that comes through yoga. She is a practicing massage therapist, a blessed
mother; and together with her husband, she teaches a nature and movement
based program for kids. Her classes explore breath, fluidity, stillness
and the integrity of alignment as a pathway to self-awareness and self-acceptance.
Christie believes that, as a template for our every day life, the internal
cultivation of yoga ripples out affecting our relationship with others,
the earth, and our presence in everything we do.
