Cody Hughey Cody B. Hughey has been practicing yoga for most of her life. She got her first yoga book at the age of five, and loved doing the different poses and reading about them. She has studied many different dance and movement forms over the years, but Hatha yoga has such a variety of styles—it provides a wealth and a lifetime to explore. Cody became a K-6 certified classroom teacher in 2002 after earning her Master’s Degree in education from the University of Colorado at Boulder. She moved back to Asheville after being away for seven years and started teaching right away at a county school for one year and then at Evergreen Community Charter School teaching 5th grade for four years. This gave her many opportunities to be in natural settings and practice yoga with children and adults, as well, including an Outward Bound experience. During this same time period, Cody got more serious with her home yoga practice and decided to go through AYC’s teacher-training program. She taught after-school yoga programs at both schools for adults and children. She also did yoga as part of her classroom culture on a daily basis and provided longer children’s classes periodically. She worked across all grade levels (K-8) to teach mini yoga classes across educational settings and to staff members throughout the school day. She has also facilitated Kids’ Yoga trainings outside of schools. Cody became a Certified Children’s Yoga teacher in 2003, as well as a Certified Vinyasa, Pre and Post Natal and Restorative yoga teacher in the years following. Cody has practiced Ashtanga, Hatha Dynamic Flow, Kundalini, Anusara, and Forrest yoga the most of any other styles. Her teaching is an eclectic and personal blend from her experiences, which include a deep connection to nature and the rhythms of the Earth. In all the classes she leads and facilitates, Cody brings compassion, humor, attention to alignment, the flow of the breath in connection to the body, and a sense of balance and well-being to her students through the yoga practice.
