Class Descriptions
Anusara: Anusara means “flowing with Grace,” “going with the flow”, and “following your heart”. Founded by John Friend in 1997, Anusara Yoga® is a powerful hatha yoga system that unifies a Tantric philosophy of intrinsic Goodness with the Universal Principles of Alignment. Its’ uplifting philosophy, epitomized by a “celebration of the heart,” looks for the good in all people and all things. Fun-loving students of all levels of ability and yoga experience are honored for their unique differences, limitations, and talents.
Ashtanga: Learn the fundamentals of ashtanga practice including series a and b sun salutations, standing poses, seated poses, transitions and more! Descriptive instruction to safely explore this challenging form of yoga.
Mysore Ashtanga: This new format for the morning Ashtanga practice is true to the method of teaching used in the birthplace of Ashtanga yoga, Mysore, India. John Bultman and Naomi Worth will be your instructors. The primary series will be taught step by step and each time you come, you just go as far as you can in the practice, adding on poses as you get stronger. Beginners and advanced practitioners practice in the same room but are doing very different things, all guided by the instructors. If you are new, you will get hands on assistance and one-on-one attention so that you can safely learn the challenging practice of Ashtanga. Your practice might be 30 minutes long, or two hours long, depending on how advanced you are in the series.
Yoga Basics: Lots of instruction on alignment and use of props. This class is intended to help you get yoga in your body and to learn the language of yoga. You will learn the most commonly practiced standing and seated poses and how to practice them safely, honoring your own body and level of strength and flexibility. This is where your journey with yoga begins.
Focus on Back and Core: Class designed to specifically target your center. You will learn strengthening and stretching for the back muscles, hips, abdominals, and hamstrings to develop and then maintain balance in this area.
Flow: A moving practice of yoga: The breath leads movement into, within, and out of the poses. Poses linked together with breath. The speed of the class is dependent on the instructor.
Jivamukti Yoga: The Jivamukti Yoga system was founded by David Life and Sharon Gannon. Jivamukti Yoga – a powerful flow of postures built upon the steady rhythm of ujjayi breathing, using sound and music to transform negative emotions into fuel for enlightenment, along with learning practical applications of classical yoga scriptures, pranayama, and meditation in every class. The pace in these classes is slow, deliberate, and attentive.
Mindful Flow: A deliberate, calming and steadying vinyasa class with focus on ujiai breath as the “one point” of concentration. Alignment-based instructions to inform each pose, and meditations to open and feel the heart. Cat’s classes always begin with slow and deliberate sun salutations to build warmth in the tissues. All classes who instruct Mindful Flow at this studio pay close attention to your alignment to avoid injuriesand help you to receive the full benefit of each posture in your body and mind.
Baby and Beloved: This class is for newborns up to well-moving crawlers and their parent/friend/guardian. In this class, there are yoga exercises just for babies based upon their individual levels of development, yoga postures for the adult companions which incorporate the babes, songs, gentle movement, infant massage and quiet time. Come and meet your community of babies and friends through this fun and playful approach to yoga with your little one!
Pre-natal: Specially designed to support mama in her journey of creation. These classes focus on building strength around the hips and low back to support your changing body as well as stability around the pelvis. You will also learn poses to strengthen your arms and stretch open your chest and shoulders to prepare for nursing and/or carrying your new sweet baby when the baby comes. Standing poses and seated poses are incorporated through the practice. No previous experience with yoga is required.
