Join this 40 day challenge of getting a daily yoga and meditation practice in every morning with Michael. In this 40 day immersion, we will explore how to make yoga and meditation into a daily routine like brushing our teeth. Plus, we'll explore optimal alignment techniques, vinyasa sequences to build strength and increase flexibility where we need it most, all kinds of breathing techniques and ancient wisdom for modern times. Class will meet Mondays-Fridays only and you will be encouraged to do your own practice on the weekends for consistency. All levels are welcome and all asana will be offered with modifications for beginners to seasoned practitioners. Cost is $240. Price includes all 30 sessions of yoga! Community Kirtan with Kalidas February 5 at 7:30pmDate: Feb 05, 2012 - Dec 23, 2012 The wonderful Kalidas is happy to offer monthly kirtan in a very relaxed atmosphere which encourages audience participation. These devotional evenings will be low-tech and bhakti yogis are invited to bring their own instruments and join in the music or even lead a chant if they like. By donation. First Sundays of each month. Dates for the rest of the year are: Sunday, Nov 6, and Dec 4. Kalidas is a classically trained musician who found his true musical path in devotional music. After years of performing as a travelling kirtan walla, Kalidas grew weary of feeling like an entertainer and felt something was missing from his "performances." In his years living at his Guru's ashram, kirtan was a simple affair. Using only acoustic instruments and hand percussion made all involved equal participants in the chanting. For Kalidas it was this type of chanting that really captured the essence of the devotional offering. He wishes to bring this spirit to his community kirtan evenings at our studio. You are invited to bring whatever instruments you think will add to the harmony of the group and let's create an offering together of the music of our hearts. A "love offering" (aka donation) will be accepted to cover the use of the space and to support the formation of a non-profit entity to build a Temple to the Universal aspect of the Goddess. Yoga and Herbs for Digestion: Illuminating the Navel CenterDate: Feb 19, 2012 The sages illuminated many techniques and right ways of living to find balance and wholeness in one’s life---both physically and spiritually. At the center point of many of these techniques lies the One Truth, the secret of the yogis...which is the fact that health my friend, begins at the navel. When our bellies are out of whack, our digestion overloaded with fats and sweets, our livers burdened with environmental chemicals, toxic emotions & attitudes...our whole body is affected. IBS, Crohn’s disease, Celiac, food allergies are all results of a weak navel center. When this vital place is out of balance we become irritated, feel sad and depressed, have a loss of inspiration or courage and can even become dull, fearful, anxious or confused. This workshop is designed to lay the groundwork for how to keep ourselves balanced by bringing strength, power and health to our navel center. We will discuss particular yoga postures and techniques as well as supportive herbs that grow locally here in NC (and many other places in the US!). Each of us will sample a taste of these herbs and do a practice that will give you tools to take home for keeping your belly luminous! Workshop participants will receive discounted prices on the herbal tinctures for digestion and consultations (of which they can email her directly or set up an appointment after class) A mini consult $45 or full Yoga and Herbs consult $95. About Brooke: Brooke Sullivan, RYT-500 is a yogini, herbalist, mother and performer for an international family band Secret Agent 23 Skidoo. As a child she was always upside-down, either hanging from trees or doing headstands. This unique view of the world encouraged a crazy path as an adult, one filled with rich experiences and amazing teachers. Her unique style is very Ashevillian (home sweet home), blending the wisdom of the Himalayan Sages, Traditional Herbalism, Classical Yoga, Para Yoga and Ayurveda into one big yummy soup...called Tantra. Now this is not the sexy kind, but what the sages referred to as both an expansion and a weaving of wise tools for success in the external world as much as the inner. Check out her website at ashevilleyogaandherbs.com for upcoming events, amazing tonics, private consultations and other tidbits to deepen your yoga experience!
Saraswati Yoga Nidra with Cat MatlockDate: Feb 19, 2012 Yoga nidra is a deeply relaxing meditation in which you are guided into the state of consciousness where you are in between wakefulness and deep sleep. In this state you bring your intention of what you are creating into your subtle body channels and all of your physical being. In this special evening's practice, we enter this state with Saraswati, the Goddess of Creation and Divine Wisdom, to assist our making good choices in what we wish to create. In the nest of winter we will call on Saraswati to guide us into our deepest knowing to assist our releasing that which we no longer need and to bring to Light that which we are creating. Evening begins with simple movement and asana for all levels of practitioner. We will then chant the root mantra of the Goddess Saraswati to welcome her into our beings. We proceed to then lie in savasana for the yoga nidra guided meditation, bringing you deeply into your consciousness to the place where you are most powerful in manifesting your desires. When here, you will state your sankalpa, or intention, into all your cells and subtle body channels. The evening concludes with a warm cloth annointed with special oil placed on your forehead while Cat sings to you. Cat spends long periods of time preparing the special oils and chanting mantras over the cloths used for the "picchu" warm cloth for the ending of the practice. This practice is deeply soothing, restoring, and a powerful magical tool for bringing the energies of the universe in alignment with your greatest intentions. It is an honor to share this with you. The nidra practices usually sell out ahead of time so pre-registration is highly recommended to reserve your space. Hari OM.
