Price: Sliding Scale
One evening workshop $15-$25

With evidence dating back 32,000 years, Birth Dancing is one of the oldest techniques for childbirth preparation and labor. Women in the Arabic world and other cultures have been dancing for millennia during pregnancy and labor for gentler, more conscious and empowered birthing. This evening workshop will focus on the ancient art for all phases of the birth journey (preparation, conception, pregnancy, labor and recovery). We will cover the history and benefits, basic movements (mostly from belly dance), which moves to use when, how to help the baby get into optimal position and how to help ease and quicken labor. All interested women are welcome. You can read more about Michelle and the classes on her website here

Birth Dancing Series
Series Dates: Begins Thursday, July 11 7:15-8:30pm
Price: $65-$85 for all 6 weeks
In order to make the movements part of the body’s muscle memory, a weekly practice of Birth Dancing is most beneficial. This series will help students get a basic foundation of the movements. The classes will focus mostly on belly dance as it was originally created by women for birth preparation. The style is gentle and meditative, relaxing, yet invigorating. Each class will consist of a yoga warm-up safe for pregnancy, a brief toning / chanting session, basic belly dance movements and information on what moves to use when. Some classes will also include other world dances suitable for birth, free form movement and visioning dances to help release fears, tap into the intuitive body, communicate with the baby and manifest a beautiful birth journey.

About Michelle: Michelle Dionne has been a teacher of sacred and healing dance since 1998, helping many to discover their personal power to heal themselves and connect to the Divine through dance. She first learned of dancing for the birth journey through her training with Charmaine Lee of Synergy Dance. She became enchanted with stories from the Arabic culture where some women still dance their babies into the world, gently and ceremonially. She studied belly dance intensively for 2 years before becoming pregnant for the first time. She danced and taught during her entire pregnancy. During labor, the dancing helped her to attain a primal state of mind where she felt absolute trust in her body’s wisdom. Feeling completely fearless and empowered, she delivered her first daughter at home in 2 and a half hours. When she became pregnant again, she trained with Stephanie Larsen of Dancing for Birth to gain more knowledge of why dancing helps so dramatically in the birth process. She danced through her next labor with a deep joy and a quiet mind, delivering her second daughter in 90 minutes! She is deeply committed to sharing this simple, ancient practice and is awestruck by how greatly it can empower mothers and ease birth for mamas and babies.
