Sing your way to joy and peace!
Kirtan is a sweet meditative practice of chanting mantras and divine names. Join your voice with the group as we together experience the healing power of bhakti yoga, the yoga of love and devotion.
No experience is necessary. Kirtan is perfect for first-timers because of its call-and-response format: the leader sings a simple phrase, then the group responds by singing the same phrase back.
Mantra Mandala is a kirtan band based in Asheville, North Carolina. The band was formed in 2023 by a group of friends drawn together by a love of sacred chanting, yoga, and community building.
Mantra Mandala features Jeremy Staum (vocals, harmonium), Eli McNamara (vocals, guitar, percussion), Shikha Johnson (vocals, percussion) and Timothy Burgin (percussion). The band draws inspiration from the rich lineage of kirtan and bhakti yoga, infusing traditional chants with modern harmonies and arrangements, covering hits of Western kirtan, and writing original mantra music. Together they weave melody, rhythm, and harmony to create an immersive sound that invites listeners into a journey of meditative bliss and devotion.
The band’s name, Mantra Mandala, represents the intention behind their music. Mantra and mandala are both meditation tools. Mantra is the repetition of sacred sounds. Mandala is a geometric design that represents the wholeness of the Self. The band’s music is like a mandala formed of mantras, transporting listeners into the state of connectedness that is yoga.
