Ojas, or “life sap,” reflects the state of our immunity, creativity, and vitality. Balanced ojas is indicated by a loving and compassionate nature, strong immune system, clarity of mind, strength, endurance, and resilience. Join Sumaya K. Owens, Ayurvedic Yoga Therapist and CEO of Present Moment Media, for a half-day immersion of experiential learning, a depth of embodied practices, & collective care. Open to anyone interested in learning more about embodied leadership, especially yoga teachers, ayurvedic professionals, embodiment coaches, mental health clinicians, somatic professionals, bodyworkers, and business & nonprofit leaders. Beginners are warmly welcome, no previous experience in yoga or ayurveda is required. Co-hosted by Embodied Leadership Asheville.

About the Instructor

Sumaya K. Owens (she/they) is a queer unschooling parent, healing arts practitioner, social justice organizer, and holistic business & marketing consultant. They are passionate about uplifting the voices of changemakers and visionaries. Sumaya built their career from scratch, starting as a yoga and meditation teacher, then a corporate spa and retreat manager, now a thriving, wildly independent entrepreneur. After leaving corporate management seven years ago, she packed her bags, traveled the world with her daughter, and started her own online business supporting inspirational professionals across the globe. Sumaya and her daughter are currently living in the mountains of Western North Carolina, traditional land of Cherokee peoples.

Sumaya is a trauma-informed yoga teacher and ayurvedic health coach. They currently teach weekly virtual yoga classes for Burmese students living in a military coup in Bago, Myanmar. In addition, they frequently offer workshops, trainings, and retreats on mindfulness, stress management, and trauma-informed practices for business and nonprofit leaders. They currently serve as the DEI Co-Chair for the local chapter of AIGA Asheville. They are the lead organizer for the Embodied Leadership Meetup Group in Asheville, NC. In addition, she volunteers with grassroots efforts across the globe, primarily focused on offering free wellness programs to immigrant and refugee populations.
